Price & Process: The Journey to Your Pine Grove Farm Golden
“Intentional placement, rigorous biosecurity, and a lifelong commitment to every Pine Grove Farm Puppy!”
Bringing a Pine Grove Farm Golden Retriever into your home is a multi-step partnership. Because we are dedicated to the preservation of the breed, our process is purposefully structured to ensure every puppy is placed in a home where they will thrive and be protected for life.
Investment
At PGF, our pricing is not a "one-size-fits-all" fee. Our investment rates are variable and based on the specific genetics, titles, and pedigree rarity of each planned pairing. This doesn’t mean we just “make-up” a price on the fly. Before we announce a positive pregnancy, we know what the investment is going to be for each puppy of that litter.
Puppy Investment: The final price for a specific litter is determined by the parents' titles (Hunt, Sport, or Conformation), the status of their DNA/OFA clearances, and the uniqueness of the genetic pool (e.g., imported lineages or rare field-bred genetics).
Limited Registration: All puppies are sold on AKC Limited Registration, meaning no breeding rights are granted at the time of sale. This does not prevent you from competing in AKC/UKC performance events like hunt tests, agility, or scent work.
Full Registration (Breeding Rights): Full rights are granted solely at our discretion to pre-qualified preservationist breeders for an additional fee. This is only considered after the dog has reached 24 months of age, received its CHIC #, and earned an AKC or UKC title (UKC title is acceptable if the dog holds a dual registration.).
PGF Discounts (NEW!): We are proud to offer a $100 discount to our returning puppy families, active-duty military, and first responders. Please remind us of your status when settling your final balance!
The Step-by-Step Process
STEP 1: Application & Vetting
Familiarize yourself with our website and contract. If you agree with our 24-month spay/neuter requirement and "return to breeder" policy, fill out our Application.
The Interview: Once reviewed, we will schedule a phone call. We reserve the right to decline applications that are not a fit for the high-drive nature of our dogs.
STEP 2: The Waitlist
We rarely have "instant" availability for the simple fact of our status as a preservation breeder. To show commitment, we require a $100 non-refundable fee to join our waitlist (applied toward the total purchase price).
The list is chronological. You may "pass" on a litter and stay on the list for up to 12 months.
Note: We breed for our program and the breed first. We cannot guarantee specific colors, sizes, or exact birth dates.
STEP 3: The Litter Deposit
Once a litter is born and we have confirmed counts, we reach out to our waitlist. A $500 non-refundable holding fee is required to secure your spot (your $100 waitlist fee counts toward this if applicable).
STEP 4: Puppy Evaluations & Matching
We reserve First Pick of every litter for the PGF program, although, since we are a small breeding program, we do not select a puppy from every litter. Around Week 6, we perform informal temperament testing, but understand we begin evaluations of each puppy beginning at birth. It is at week 6, into week 7 where our evaluations begin to follow established puppy behavioral evaluations.
The Match: We don’t do "first come, first served" picks. Based on our observations of the puppies' drive and personality, we will discuss which puppy fits your lifestyle. Picks are finalized by Week 8 to ensure the most accurate temperament assessment.
STEP 5: Biosecurity & Visiting
We welcome our puppy families to visit, but the safety of our litter is our absolute priority. Young puppies have vulnerable immune systems, and pathogens like Parvo can live in the soil for years or be carried on clothing.
By Appointment Only: Visits are scheduled after the puppies have reached an appropriate age (typically after 5 weeks).
Strict Biosecurity: All visitors must follow the same rules as "Go Home Day": arrive in freshly laundered clothes and clean shoes that have not been to dog parks, pet stores, or vet offices.
Hand Sanitization: We will require all visitors to sanitize their hands before handling any puppies. If you have been around sick dogs recently, we ask that you reschedule.
STEP 6: Go Home Day
Final Payment: Must be paid in full before the puppy leaves via Cash or Venmo (Family & Friends).
The PGF Puppy Pack: Includes age-appropriate vaccinations/deworming, microchip (pre-paid), AKC paperwork, a vet-certified health check, and a blanket that smells like mama.
Pickup Day Requirements
Biosecurity is Mandatory: Parvo and Distemper are deadly. Please arrive in clean clothes and shoes. Come straight from your home to ours.
Travel Prep: Bring a crate for the ride home (the safest option).
AKC Registration: Before you arrive to pick up your puppy, we will have filled out most of the AKC Registration for you. Before you leave though, we will review it to ensure all details are correct. After you have picked up your puppy, within a reasonable amount of time - usually just a few hours - we will finalize our side of the AKC registration process. You will then receive an email from the AKC inviting you to complete your portion and pay the registration fee. REMEMBER: Registering your new puppy is NOT an option. It is part of the contractual obligation for getting a PGF Puppy.
Children: Children are welcome but must be supervised and calm.
Lifetime Support: Once you leave with your PGF Golden, our job isn't over. You have a lifetime of breeder support for any questions regarding training, health, or just to share your success in the field!
